Harry Reid: “Vote for Me or I’ll Pose Nude”

Erica Bazoombas(Washington, D.C.) – by Erica Bazoombas - Scott Brown’s meteoric rise to the U.S. Senate came as a surprise to most, but not to Las Vegas image consultant Barb Iturate. Posing nude and driving a pickup truck is the recipe for eminence and fame says the public relations genius who helped launch the political career of Richard Nixon. “A lot of people don’t remember Nixon posing nude, but he did,” Iturate told SPN. “They didn’t call him Tricky Dick because of his politics” she added.

Iturate spoke to SPN this afternoon and said: “If I don’t detect a major change in the polls soon you’ll be seeing Harry’s hairy ass on the pages of your Sports Illustrated and Ladies Home Journal.” The Nevada Democrat said he has already purchased a pickup truck, a 1955 Dodge. “It’s way cool dude,” he said.

Neighbor: Christine O'Donnell is a Witch

Erica Bazoombas(DOVER, Del.) – by Erica Bazoombas

Tea Party candidate Christine O’Donnell has thus far weathered charges that she has dabbled in the occult, but a former neighbor says she has evidence proving O’Donnell is in fact a witch.

Mrs. Gladys Kravitz recalled that one Saturday night in 2004 she asked O’Donnell to pick up a bottle of Sambuca at the liquor store, and that the perky, prudish politico made the trip by flying on a broom.

Kravitz

Kravitz produced an old VHS tape that she claims shows the aerial errand, but said she was too drunk at the time to focus the camera properly. “That bitch is a witch,” the disquisitive dipsomaniac said, and then passed out.

O’Donnell campaign spokesman Darrin Stevens told SPN that a personal pleasure device being sold in adult novelty shops as “Christine’s Magic Wand” has nothing to do with the diminuive Delawarian. “It’s just a coincidence,” he said.

Spiritual Indifference and the Importance of Worshipping Together

Rebecca HagelinBy Rebecca Hagelin

Culture Challenge of the Week: Spiritual Indifference

“I don’t take my children to church,” the young woman said. “I’ll let them choose for themselves what to believe in, when they’re older.”

Her casual approach to her children’s religious involvement will surely affect her children’s lives. Even more so, decisions like hers have unintended consequences for our moral culture and political future.

Children and teens who lack religious connections today will be the spiritually indifferent adults of tomorrow. A recent study found that religious involvement as an adult strongly correlates with attendance at weekly worship services as a child or “weekly or monthly” religious programs as a teen. Most “unchurched” adults never went to religious services or programs as children and, consequently, religion means less to them later. Only 16% of “unaffiliated” adults describe religion as “very important” in their lives.

In a 2010 survey, “Millennials” (18-29 year olds) describe themselves as more “spiritual” than “religious”–which really means they congratulate themselves for their “spiritual” inclinations while doing virtually nothing to live their beliefs.

Over one-third of millenials say they never pray alone and two-thirds never or rarely pray with others. They say they don’t read the Bible and two-thirds rarely or never participate in worship services.

The weight of a spiritually indifferent younger generation will be a heavy burden on us all because, on the most significant moral questions of our day, religiosity makes a difference.

For example, “almost seven-in-ten (69%) of the religiously unaffiliated (including 85% of atheists and agnostics)” support unlimited abortion.  In sharp contrast, 82% of those who say religion is the most important influence in their lives believe abortion should be illegal. The religious influence is even stronger on same-sex marriage. Among those who say religion is the primary influence on their lives, 94% oppose same-sex marriage; only 6% favor it.

How to Save Your Family by Worshipping Together

Our American founders understood the importance of faith, not only to our families but also to our cultural fabric. George Washington’s First  Farewell Address warned, “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and morality are indispensable supports.”

Explain Washington’s words to your children and teens, so they will see the intimate connection between faith, world-view, religious practice, and moral decisions. Pray with them, for personal or community concerns and for America’s leaders.

As Americans, and as parents, we need to prioritize the time we give to family worship and particularly to educating our children in our faith traditions. Our children cannot drive themselves to church.  They won’t devote time to religious activities as teenagers-when studies, sports, and busy social lives compete for every hour-unless we encourage them and offer the practical support to make it happen.

Look for a youth group or religious education team that connects with your teen spiritually to reinforce your religious and moral messages. A good youth pastor can work miracles, opening a young person’s heart to eternal truths.

And, most importantly, live your faith out in your daily life. You and your actions will serve to either help lead your children to or away from God.

Stakelbeck on Terror - The Muslim Brotherhood in America

On this week's special edition of Stakelbeck on Terror, CBN News examines the Muslim Brotherhood -- a group that's committed to jihad, sharia law and establishing Islamic domination in the U.S.

The organization shares the same goals as al Qaeda, but some experts believe -- as a long-term threat to American security -- the Brotherhood is more dangerous than Osama bin Laden's followers.

Watch as former FBI special agent John Guandolo, ex-CIA officer Brian Fairchild and leading investigative journalist Patrick Poole break down the Brotherhood's history, goals and its infiltration of leading U.S. government and educational institutions.

Also, stay with CBNNews.com for part two of their discussion on the Oct. 4 edition of Stakelbeck on Terror. The panel will give recommendations on how America can fight back against the Muslim Brotherhood's threat.

Will Colin Powell Give Obama a General Discharge?

Ken BlackwellBy Ken Blackwell

"If I've lost Walter Cronkite, I've lost Middle America," said President Lyndon B. Johnson at the time of the Communist Tet Offensive in Vietnam in 1968. Walter Cronkite was then the CBS News anchor man, often described as 'the most trusted man in America.' Just a few weeks after he said that, LBJ withdrew from his party's nomination contest.

No one thinks President Obama is in that much trouble—yet. But he has just been criticized by his highest profile endorser from the 2008 campaign. When retired four-star Gen. Colin Powell backed Barack Obama for President two years ago, it was a huge leg up for the liberal Democrats' prospects. Gen. Powell, a former Secretary of State and a former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, gave Obama instant credibility on defense and foreign policy issues.

Now, Gen. Powell is criticizing the Obama administration. This is a very high level defection, if defection it is. If Gen. Powell is not the most trusted man in America today, it would be hard to name someone of higher standing. In fact, if Colin Powell had been pro-life, he probably would not have had to run for President. He would have been carried into the White House on his supporters' shoulders. In that event, Barack Obama would probably still be sitting in the Illinois State Senate.

Gen. Powell still considers himself a Republican. He says Obama must provide a "razor blade" focus on the economy, on bringing down the 9.6% unemployment rate. Gen. Powell is especially concerned about minority youth. Unemployment among black and Hispanic young people is above 20% in many urban barrios and inner cities.

"America is going to be a [majority] minority nation in one more generation. Our minorities are not getting educated well enough now. Fifty percent of our minority kids are not finishing high school. We've got to invest in education."

The general may be right about that. That's why he could help minority youth by getting behind parental choice in education. The Obama administration took a razor to the District of Columbia's Opportunity Scholarships. A mere $13 million dollars went to parents who chose successful schools for their poor and minority kids. Now, that program has been cruelly cut. If we had Colin Powell pumping for school choice, it would help him and help the children.

Gen. Powell even gives President Obama credit for something every other Republican in the country seems to be against: health care reform. Still, Powell says: "As far as the American people are concerned, the main attack is employment."

Gen. Powell has not said he would endorse President Obama's Republican opponent in 2012. It's still much too early for that. Colin Powell is probably the most prestigious Republican "moderate" we have in the nation. But the real source of his standing comes from his 40 years' service to the nation on the battlefield and at the highest levels of command.

President Obama needs to be very careful. If he loses the support of Colin Powell, it could be devastating. Obama will not have the same bright, shiny patina he had in 2008. He no longer could claim to be the J.F.K. of the black community. Instead, he'll have a record to defend. Even his strong appeal for minorities and women will be diminished unless he changes course. He has given us record levels of unemployment and all-out support for abortion. Every poll shows that women are more pro-life than men. Minorities are more pro-life than whites. If the economy were humming, the President might get away with his anti-life policies. But with people hurting materially and spiritually, he could be in for rough sledding.

I'm happy to say that the song was featured on Sept 16 in an hour-long segment with Gary Sutton and Jim Horn on News Radio 910 in York PA. They invited me on the air to talk and to take calls. Never done anything like that before! Gary and Jim said it went really well. They and their listeners could not have been nicer. It was awesome!

People have asked - "I'm an American" is available at iTunes and Amazon. The album cover art has the title and says "Play it loud. Play it Proud." Can't miss it!

Thanks for viewing!

By the way, the young guy kneeling on the far right of the first row of the flight crew picture was my own Dad. The photo was taken during B-17 flight training school in 1943.

Reid Stuffs Defense Bill

WASHINGTON DC (SR) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he will add the DREAM Act, a highly unpopular and controversial immigration measure offering citizenship to some illegal immigrants, to an upcoming defense policy bill.

DREAM is an acronym for Don't Remove Ethnic Alien Morons.

Reid, who is fighting for his political life, called the DREAM Act "really important, especially for those illegal aliens of voting age living in Nevada."

Reid made the announcement at a Washington DC lowrider convention.

My comments: This is the kind of stuff we're not going to miss much when you're out of office, you miserable self-serving pinhead!

Stop Digging

Posted By BankruptingAmerica

"Stop Digging" is a television advertisement to highlight the decades-old problem of government overspending, and the staggering fiscal problems it has created.

Despite overspending resulting in a projected FY 2010 deficit of $1.3 trillion and debt of over $13 trillion; despite endless pledges to get spending under control; and despite repercussions ranging from hampered job creation to widespread citizen anger -- Washington simply cannot, or will not, get a grasp on the nation's purse strings.

Public Notice's new ad campaign highlighting this problem employs the commonsense Will Rogers quote: "If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging."

It's become glaringly clear that Washington's explosive spending isn't helping the economy, and isn't creating jobs. Regrettably, what this habitual overspending has done is buried America in debt, badly shaken business confidence, and hastened a future economic and fiscal crisis that threatens to eclipse the dismal situation of today.

There remains hope to change course, but it will require those in Washington to get their act together, and fast. In short, that will require less useless finger-pointing, more political courage, and perhaps the toughest of them all: far less spending.

Leaked DHS memo details amnesty without Congress involvement

  • September 17th, 2010 12:16 pm PT

A newly leaked amnesty-memo inside
Department of Homeland Security reveals a way to grant amnesty without
Congress debating comprehensive immigration reform or casting a vote.

This is the third inside memo to
be leaked to the media regarding the Obama Administration’s intent to
legalize 20 million illegal aliens currently residing in Ao you intend
to get off your butt and do your job?

I already told you we did not elect you to just be “present!”  You are
supposed to be protecting our interests as well.merica unlawfully. The
first memos came out of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) agencies- both put
together likely tools that could be used to make an amnesty end run
around lawmakers.

The American Spectator recovered
the latest document from DHS and reports some dubious plans that
insiders say went all the way up to the DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano.

“If going forward with a larger registration program is not possible,”
the memo reads, “we could propose a narrowly-tailored registration
program for individuals eligible for relief under the DREAM Act, AgJOBS,
or other specifically designed subcategories.”

For those who don’t believe the
Obama Administration’s intensions about back-door amnesty language
contained in the DREAM Act asks for targeted amnesty for children under
the age of 35 who attend college or join the armed services. The kicker
with the DREAM Act is the Democratic leadership is placing this
legislation inside a defense spending bill set to hit the Senate floor
next week.

Included in the DHS memo are
details about political ramifications of a backdoor amnesty push. The
memo outlines a beginning phase that would legalize illegal immigrants
through DHS without comprehensive immigration legislation. The DHS memo
also reads that by “using administrative measures to sidestep the
current state of Congressional gridlock and inertia,” would move the new
policy forward by documenting those here illegally.

Measures DHS would implement
include registering, fingerprinting, and screening the illegal immigrant
population-excluding those illegal aliens who have committed a felony-
but DHS envisions handing out eligible illegal immigrants work permits, a
process that would lead to their legal status.

However, the memo acknowledges
that sometime down the road Congress would have to pass legislation to
extend permanent legal residence.

This newly recovered memo is
consistent with inside memos from the USCIS and ICE, a key difference is
the concern about Congress’ reaction to being circumvented. “The
Secretary would face criticism that she is abdicating her charge to
enforce the immigration laws. Internal complaints of this type from
career DHS officers are likely and may also be used in the press to
bolster the criticism.”

In fact the USCIS has been looking
for ways to grant amnesty without Congress for sometime and their memo
outlined the method of skirting lawmakers. According to USCIS some
illegal aliens would be granted resident status by simply handing them
“green cards.”

“In the absence of Comprehensive
Immigration Reform, CIS can extend benefits and/or protections to many
individuals and groups by issuing new guidance and regulations,” the
memo read, two of the four who wrote the controversial memo were
President Obama appointees including the head of USCIS Alejandro N.
Mayorkas.

A Diverse Opinion About Diversity

Burt PrelutskyBy Burt Prelutsky

Recently, I heard from a guy who claimed that squirrel tasted just like chicken. Some days, I swear, I get the idea that everything's supposed to taste like chicken. But it brought home the fact that what we eat, as well as what we think, is often more a matter of geography than of anything else. Frankly, I wouldn't care if it tasted like chocolate ice cream, I've never had squirrel on my plate and I aim to keep it that way. As with frogs and snakes, there are some things I regard as food and some things I'd prefer not to think about at all. And that's how I want to keep it.

So it will probably come as no surprise that I am not a champion of diversity even though I am aware that the word, itself, has taken on sacred qualities in certain quarters, along with such words as liberal, progressive and Obama. Leftists mainly enjoy using the word as a club with which to bash conservatives over the head. Suggest that you believe that America's traditional values and culture trump those of other countries, and you can expect to get whacked.

For a couple of hundred years, foreigners have been flocking to the shores of this most welcoming of nations. They would bring along their art and music along with their cuisine, but they adapted their ways in order that their children and their children's children would acclimate and be full-fledged Americans. There was a reason, after all, that America was nicknamed the Great Melting Pot.

But somewhere along the way, there was a sea change. Now we have that oddest of strange creatures known as the dual citizen and we have millions of people living here who apparently have no particular loyalty to this country and are being encouraged to retain their own language and their old ways. "Press one for Spanish, two for English" has become commonplace. Teenagers who have never even set foot in Mexico, Salvador and Guatemala, demonstrate in our streets while carrying foreign flags, and we're all supposed to respect them or be labeled as bigots and xenophobes.

American citizens who are being taxed to death to support illegal aliens are called racists if they object to footing the bill for health care and education for millions of freeloading ingrates who insist they're only reclaiming land that is rightfully theirs.

On top of all that, our kids are being brainwashed in their schools into accepting that the only truly evil society on the face of the earth isn't North Korea, Iran, China or Syria, but their own. They're taught to accept that Al Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbollah, aren't gangs of butchers and terrorists, but simply freedom fighters. They are carefully taught that Christian and Jewish symbols and traditions are oppressive, but that they mustn't be judgmental when it comes to burkas, beheadings and female mutilation.

By their lights, tolerance is the greatest of all virtues, but only so long as it's not tolerance of anything American.

I accept that our ways wouldn't suit everyone in the world. In some places, after all, cock fights and bullfights are the norm, just as the execution of homosexuals in Iran, the sublimation of women in Saudi Arabia and the eating of dogs in parts of Southeast Asia are apparently part of their disgusting cultures. So while I may not approve of these loathsome activities, I figure they can do what they like, so long as they stay where they are. In fact, staying where they are strikes me as being one hell of an idea.

IS WALMART FUNDING RADICAL ISLAMIC SCHOOLS IN USA?

NEW CORPORATE SPONSOR FOR UNIVERSAL CALIPHATE?
MILLIONS FOR GULEN’S MADRASSAHS!!

By  Paul L. Williams, Ph.D.

The Walton Family Foundation is shelling out millions to fund charter schools with alleged ties to militant Islam throughout the country.

At the schools, which have been “inspired” by Imam Fethullah Gulen, students are immersed in Turkish customs, rituals, and language. They take part in so-called “Turkish Olympics” and are encouraged to make annual pilgrimages to Istanbul and Ankara. The schools allegedly foster the dream of the restoration of the Ottoman Empire and dismiss all accounts of the Armenian Christian holocaust as fanciful myths.

According to Stephen Schwartz of the Center for Islamic Pluralism, the students at the Gulen schools are also stepped in the tenets of militant Islam so they may be of serve a role in the re-establishment of the Ottoman Empire and the extension of shariah (Islamic law) throughout Europe and the United States.

Many of the teachers at these schools are Turkish émigrés with questionable credentials. Some possess H-1B non immigrant visas which should only be granted to individuals who possess “highly specialized knowledge in a field of human endeavor.” The female faculty members appear in their classrooms wearing hijabs and traditional Islamic attire.

Rachel Sharon-Krespin writes: “His (Gulen’s) followers target youth in the eighth through twelfth grades, mentor and indoctrinate them in the ışıkevi, educate them in the Fethullah schools, and prepare them for future careers in legal, political, and educational professions in order to create the ruling classes of the future Islamist, Turkish state.”

Even more telling is a comment from Nurettin Veren, Gulen’s right hand man for 35 years, who says: “These schools are like shop windows. Recruitment and Islamization are carried out through night classes.

The Walton Family derived its vast fortune – – estimated at $89.5 – – from Sam and Bud Walton, the founders of Wal-Mart.

In California, the Walton Family Foundation has donated approximately $1 million to the Magnolia Science Academies that have been “inspired” by Gulen and his movement.

Similarly, the Waltons have provided sizeable checks to similar Gulen charter schools, including the Indiana Math and Science Foundation which received $230,000 in 2007.

During the same year, the Waltons gave the same amount to Noble Academy Charter School in Ohio, the Abramson Science and Technology Charter School in Louisiana, and the Noble Academy Charter School in Ohio – – all of which uphold Gulen’s teachings and ideology.

Another Gulen-inspired institution – – the Lisa Academy Charter School in Arkansas – – was granted $154,244.

The above figures are the tip of the iceberg since the allocations of the Walton Family Foundation to the Gulen schools in 2009 have not been disclosed.

The Gulen-inspired schools have also received more than $10 million from Bill Gates of Microsoft fame, and nearly $1 billion in federal and state funds.

Fethullah Gulen has been labeled “the most dangerous Islamist on planet earth.”

In 1998, he fled his native Turkey to escape arrest on government charges that he sought to overthrow the secular Ataturk government.

With his vast fortune – – estimated by the U.S. Justice Department to exceed $25 billion – – Gulen found refuge in Pennsylvania, where he established a mountain fortress on 45 acres of land in the rural community of Saylorsburg.

From Saylorsburg, Gulen worked to transform the secular government of Turkey into an Islamic Republic under the Justice and Democratic Party (Adalet ve Kalkinma, AKP)- – a party under the Gulen’s control.

Transmitted by Dr. Williams’ Blackberry while on a secret assignment.
May the Lord keep Paul Williams safe.

The REAL Moderate Islam2 - Video

There really is Moderate Islam. They are the religious Islamics, mostly in the USA, that believe in the separation of mosque and State. Many came here to escape the Political Islam of countries like Syria, etc., where the Government is ruled by the Koran. AIFD is a moderate Islamic organization in the USA.

The groups shown here are Political Islamists that support the Radical Islamists or are part of the Radical Islamist Terrorists! They want to replace our Constitution and Rule of Law with their Koran and their Sharia Religious Law. Everything you do with be judged by their Imans interpretation of the Koran.

They will say anything (in English) to make you believe they are moderate but what they say in Arabic to each other and who they support and are supported by tells a totally different story. CAIR, MAS, Muslim Brotherhood, and even the Soros backed MoveOn.org, are Political Islamist Cults/Groups that support Muslim Terrorists. Be AWARE! and BEWARE! ---ed

Some of the past Presidents try to console him while looking in the direction of the modern Presidents as if to say, "What have you done?" Many of these modern Presidents, seemingly oblivious to anything other than themselves, appear to be congratulating each other on their great accomplishments. SR: Look sister, is he a Democrat or not?

NCO: Sort of not...

SR: So then he's a Republican?

NCO: I'd say more like a Republicrat...

SR: There is no such thing.

NCO: (Hang up)

While our investigation was inconclusive, the fact most Democrat candidates are campaigning under an altered version of the traditional party symbol may indicate a possible attempt to mask their affiliation. More on this as it develops.

The Knox County Answer

Roy ExumBy Roy Exum

When Tim Burchett became the Mayor of Knox County, Tenn., on September 1, he immediately instructed the county's purchasing department to put a "stop-payment order" on three handsome severance packages that had just been doled out by his predecessor.

In a story that shouldn't be ignored by any city in this angry nation of ours right now, the new county mayor also said he would soon sell a nice Chevrolet Tahoe that accompanies his office and, instead, will drive his "old Jeep that has about 175,000 miles on it."

Last week, as Mike Ragsdale was cleaning out his office in Knoxville, the word got out that several top people would not be retained by Burchett, the new Mayor. Rather than await the political executioner, communications director Susanne Dupes, director of public works Bruce Wuethrich, and director of library services Larry Frank promptly resigned.

The "hook" came a day or two later when former Mayor Ragsdale, who lost the seat due of term limits, promptly doled out almost $78,000 to the three in severance pay. Are you with me here? Think about this -- since the three weren't actually fired, the outgoing Mayor handed out packages that, when you add accrued vacation time and health insurance, will cost Knox County about $112,000. How does that sit with you?

Obviously the County Commission is pretty well steamed but, what's worse, a loud and heated public outcry has ensued. The county commissioners have started plans to prohibit severances packages in the future but, according to county law, they can't stop a mayor who desires to pay it.

Burchett's chief of staff (who'll also drive his own vehicle instead of one provided by the county) said there may be some legal issues with the severance packages. Dean Rice announced no money would be paid out until Knox County Law Director Joe Jarret verifies that the packages were legal.

Burchett, a former state senator as well as a past member of the Tennessee House, was quoted in the Knoxville News-Sentinel as saying, "I, along with my senior staff and director, will do like employees do around the country.

"We will log our mileage and file reimbursement for justified business travel using the standard federal reimbursement rate -- no take-home car, no allowance -- just straight reimbursement for miles driven to work," the new county mayor explained.

Burchett is expected to replace about 90 percent of the Ragsdale staff and will eliminate three "director level positions." Further, his staff will institute "almost 50 percent change in senior level directors." Get this: Burchett has also issued orders, according to the Knoxville newspaper, for every county department under his direction to suspend all travel that requires hotel and airfare costs. When and if necessary, travel must be approved by Burnett himself.

Rice, the county mayor’s chief, further outlined sweeping changes. According to a News-Sentinel story, “he said the mayor's office, which operates on a $1.35 million budget, will have about a 90 percent turnover rate, mostly through previous attrition that started about a month ago. He said some of the positions won't be filled and others, particularly in general administrative work, will be consolidated.”

In a 10-minute speech after he was sworn in, Burchett told an enthusiastic audience, "I cannot promise you I will never make a mistake. But I can promise you I will do my very best," the new mayor said. "I will be honest and I will never forget that you are my bosses and that this is our community and our home."
Are you getting the picture? Better yet, are you getting the emotion, the mood, the stance? It’s just like Knox County law director Joe Jaret stage-whispered to a Knoxville reporter during the new mayor’s speech, “Welcome to a new era in Knox County government.”

The people will be heard. They are the ones newly-seated Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett is duly charged to serve. And, what’s more, he’s the first to realize it. Again, grasp the whole. My goodness, the repercussions are enormous.

“There is no magic bullet ... and there is no single step that will put us on a perfect financial path, but I am confident that if we remain focused on the principles that brought us here, you will stand with us and help make our county better,” Burchett said.

Isn’t it obvious? A different day has come to politics, to Tennessee, and to you and me. Trust me, what is unfolding in Knoxville will probably be repeated all across America if what I am hearing through my stethoscope is true.

In Chattanooga we have just recalled a Mayor for the first time in history. Others will follow in the heated process. But if you aren’t paying attention, look no farther than Knoxville because when new County Mayor Tim Burchett says the people are his “bosses,” he just may have the all the turmoil finally figured out.

9/11 Anniversary: Administration Rubs Salt Into A National Wound

The events of the last few days should forever cast upon this administration the twin stains of hypocrisy and cowardice. The affair of the proposed Koran burning, which I wrote about here, has been met with such a ferocity by the American media and the American establishment that it is hard to feel anything but revulsion at the treatment of Pastor Terry Jones.

Burning Korans is an act that Muslims will find outrageous, and many Muslims would want to respond with violent acts, but it is every American’s right to burn books that he or she legally possesses.

There is something very alarming about seeing books being burned. In the days of the Renaissance, the genuine advancements in art, thought and literature that were changing and civilizing the European world were met with hostility. A tyrannical Dominican friar named Girolamo Savonarola (1452 – 1498) became leader of Florence. In 1497, in an act known as the Bonfire of the Vanities, he publicly burned books and art. A year later Savonarola was suspended by chains from a giant cross and roasted to death over a bonfire, in Florence’s public square. In the 20th century, the Nazis burned books and art. Burning of books has always suggested intolerance.

Pastor Terry Jones intended to burn Korans, and when religious leaders in America and South Africa presided over the burning of “offensive” music albums by the Beatles in the 1960s, he was following a tradition. As far as I can tell, no American president intervened to condemn preachers burning Beatles records, or later examples of music. Whether or not Pastor Terry Jones, whose church is so small he has less than fifty members, considered the extent of the  backlash when he decided to mount his own protest on the anniversary of 9/11 is not known.

Yesterday, Pastor Terry Jones was even vilified in the British Parliament. Sir George Young, the leader of the House of Commons, and a member of the Cabinet, used Parliamentary Question Time to declare that Pastor Terry Jones was a “stupid bigot.” Young’s comment was met with resounding cheers.

When a man who only has a few supporters is attacked in the media, and in the world’s press, receives more than a hundred death threats in his own country, and is portrayed as a hate-figure in the Muslim world, is it not disgraceful that he should then be condemned publicly by politicians and even his president? Is this justice? Is this showing respect for the man’s First Amendment rights?

Why would the President of the United States get involved? On Friday August 13 Obama defended the religious rights of Imam Rauf to build a mosque near Ground Zero, even though 70 percent of Americans felt offended by this. Obama effectively sided with the imam, the imam who in 2001 had said that “United States policies were an accessory” to the attacks of 9/11. Rauf had added: “In fact, in the most direct sense, Osama bin Laden is made in the USA.”

In the eyes of many Americans, the president of the United States had already shown himself to be more concerned with the feelings of Muslims than Christians, Jews or any other American group. When he publicly spoke of Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf’s rights to build a mosque at Ground Zero, that impression deepened. Rauf is paid by the State Department to travel abroad and talk to Muslims, and the White House has a Muslim adviser. There is no “Christian” and no “Jewish” adviser in the White House.  Members of Muslim Brotherhood-related groups are invited to iftar dinners in the White House, even though the Muslim Brotherhood seeks to destroy democracy and replace it with the barbaric system of Sharia. Is the administration trying too hard to appease the Muslim world, and neglecting the will of the people?

Tomorrow is the anniversary of 9/11. If one thing has emerged from the recent debacles involving the proposed Ground Zero Mosque, it is that many Americans still regard the attacks that took place nine years ago tomorrow as a hurtful wound that has not healed. It is a wound that will not be healed by an administration that allies itself with Islamists of the Muslim Brotherhood. It is a wound that is being aggravated by an administration that seems to pander to Muslims, but neglects Christians, Jews and members of other religious groups.

Pastor Jones, despite representing a small religious community has been subjected to severe pressure. He has been condemned by Eric Holder and Hillary Clinton. General David Petraeus has suggested that burning Korans will put American soldiers at risk.

American soldiers have always been at risk from fanatical Muslims, just for being American. The Taliban and Al Qaeda are not going to become non-hostile because Korans are NOT burned. And American soldiers have sometimes been put at risk by fanatical Muslims in their own ranks such as Sergeant Hasan Akbar, who killed two superior officers in a grenade attack on the eve of the Iraq invasion of 2003. Another fanatical Muslim who put American soldiers at risk was the army psychiatrist and “Soldier of Allah” Major Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 military personnel at Fort Hood.

President Obama has gone along with the notion that a small event in Florida involving some Korans and some gasoline would threaten the security of the nation. Obama said openly that the burning of Korans would be

“a recruitment bonanza for al-Qaeda. If he's listening, I hope he understands that what he's proposing to do is completely contrary to our values as Americans. That this country has been built on the notion of freedom and religious tolerance. And as a very practical matter, I just want him to understand that this stunt that he is talking about pulling could greatly endanger our young men and women who are in uniform.”

Not content to demonize the pastor for being “un-American,” Obama apparently urged Secretary of Defense Robert Gates to pressure the pastor. Gates called Terry Jones and according to Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell:

“The Secretary expressed his grave concern that going forward would put the lives of our forces at risk, especially in Iraq and Afghanistan, and urged him not to proceed with it. That was the extent of it.”

The disproportionate pressure that the administration has brought to bear upon a preacher from a humble community is startling. A BBC reporter, Mark Mardell, has written:

“There's something grotesque about the man who's in day-to-day charge of the most powerful military force the world has ever known having to lift the phone and plead with an eccentric pastor with a flock of around 50.”

Why Did Pastor Jones Back Down?

Yesterday, at a press conference in Gainesville, Florida, Pastor Terry Jones announced that he had come to an agreement with the backers of the Ground Zero Mosque and for this reason the planned Koran-burning would not go ahead. He told reporters:

“We are, of course, now against any other group burning Korans.  We would right now ask no one to burn Korans. We are absolutely strong on that. It is not the time to do it.”

He said that the backers of the Ground Zero Mosque had said they would be moving the location of the proposed Islamic “cultural center” in Lower Manhattan. Jones said that he would be flying to New York on Saturday to talk to the imam of the proposed Ground Zero Mosque.

Standing beside Pastor Jones was Imam Muhammad Musri, the head of the Islamic Society of Central Florida. Pastor Jones, during the press conference, said that Musri had told him that officials had guaranteed that the mosque would be moved. Jones said:

“I asked him [Musri] three times, and I have witnesses. If it's not moved, then I think Islam is a very poor example of religion. I think that would be very pitiful. I do not expect that.”

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf then declared from New York that he had no intentions to move his mosque.

This caused Pastor Jones to then announce that Imam Muhammad Musri

“had clearly, clearly lied to us. Given what we are now hearing, we are forced to rethink our decision. So as of right now, we are not cancelling the event, but we are suspending it.”

Pastor Jones may well have been lied to. Musri was present at the press conference. He has subsequently claimed that his words were “stretched”, and that he had only agreed to fly to New York with Pastor Jones to meet with the Ground Zero Mosque backers.

Muhammad Musri silently stood by while Pastor Jones apparently made a fool of himself, only to later claim that his words were stretched. He could have contradicted the Pastor then and there. The fact that he did not do that indicates that he may have deliberately set up the preacher.

The whole affair has been undignified, and has done more to present to Muslim nations the concept that America is weak and spineless.

Few people agree with burning Korans, but when a president talks of the rights of an imam to build a mosque at Ground Zero, it is shameful that he should then condemn a preacher for wishing to express his own political views. It is also shameful that the president should use the issue of the safety of American troops as a means to pressure the preacher. After the president’s Rules of Engagement and COIN strategies have placed American soldiers at increased risk, this smacks of more than hypocrisy.

Tomorrow will be the anniversary of the worst terrorist attack in America’s history. When Pearl Harbor took place, it was an opening salvo in a war where the identities of the participants would be known. 9/11 was an opening salvo in a war, as Bernard Lewis noted, but the identities of the participants in this war between Islamism and the West are clouded.

It can only be hoped that when the anniversary of 9/11 takes place tomorrow, the memory of those innocent people whose lives were sacrificed will not be clouded by political actions.

Imam Feisal Rauf has managed to turn the spotlight onto his own ambitions, while only paying lip service to those who died. A man who blamed American policies for 9/11 is hardly the person to be representing America. He has succeeded in putting Islam center-stage in the news, while minimizing the fact that the perpetrators of 9/11 were following Koranic injunctions to the letter.

The current administration has taken Rauf’s side and opposed a small-town preacher, apparently in an effort to appease the extremists of Islam. In the current febrile climate, it is becoming increasingly likely that the anniversary of 9/11 will be diverted by the administration from its true significance. The day will surely be used to make further politically appeasing gestures to the Muslim world, when it should be about showing solidarity with, and commiseration for, the relatives of those whose lives were cut short by the vicious and inhuman vanguards of radical Islam.

September 11, 2001: Nine Years On

 By Frank Salvato

The subject of the attacks of September 11, 2001, seems to validate the notion that the American public has an attention span issue. How else can we explain the “tolerance” argument being foisted upon the citizenry by proponents of the Islamic Center and mosque slated for construction just 500 feet from the epicenter of Ground Zero? How else can we explain the abundance of Wahabbist literature in Saudi funded mosques all over the United States? And how else can we explain the fact that a grotesquely overwhelming number of violent acts are committed, daily, in the name of Islam?

Can anyone possibly believe these issues would have been embraced with apathy and conciliation on September 12, 2001; just one day after Americans watched their countrymen leaping from jet-fuel infused infernos only to partially disintegrate as they impacted with the ground below?

Can anyone imagine any family member of anyone killed by the bloodthirsty and barbaric Islamist ideologues on that fateful day rationalizing the construction of an Islamic center and mosque on what is literally the graveyard for 2,977 souls; souls dispatched in the name of Allah and Muhammad?

And what of the encroachment of Sharia into the Western culture, into the American culture? Would anyone who still remembered how they felt when they saw the first tower of the World Trade Center collapse be inclined to debate whether Muslim communities should be permitted to establish Sharia councils to mitigate issues within their communities here in America; councils that operate outside the constitutionally constrained legal system? Does anyone in their right mind believe that the barbaric Islamic traditions of honor killing and genital mutilation have a place in the 21st Century?

In the immediate aftermath of September 11, 2001, Americans from all political corners joined hands, minds and hearts in a firm determination to finally say that the scourge of radical Islamist violence needed to be confronted; needed to be vanquished; needed to be erased from the face of the Earth. On September 12, 2001, each and every American knew that to walk away from this battle – a battle foisted upon us not by our own choosing but by fundamentalist and violent Islamists – was to invite an even more catastrophic event to our shores, one that, perhaps and God forbid, could test the strength of the American will in the face of a massive bio-chemical or even nuclear attack.

Yet today, nine years later, we have elected as our leaders sympathizers and appeasers who are using the Iraqi and Afghan battle theaters as pawns in an ideological political game; who call the war against aggressive, radical and violent Islam an “overseas contingency plan”; and who do practically everything in their power to undercut the West’s most valuable ally in the Middle East – Israel – short of attacking her themselves.

Today, nine years after Muslim radicals, in an aggressive and offensive act of terrorism, dispatched 2, 977 human beings from the Earth, cries from beyond the grave beg for us to protect those still living from a similar fate; cries that ride on every wind that navigates the urban canyons of Manhattan, every ring of the Pentagon and through the fields of Shanksville.

But, increasingly, the American public cannot hear the cries. We are listening to agenda-driven news outlets that spotlight our elected leaders telling us we are to blame, that America is bad. We are commanded by the Progressive-Liberals to listen to CAIR and the “bridge-builder” Feisal Abdul Rauf explain to us that we are at fault, that our government made Osama bin Laden and the murderous cretins of September 11, 2001, who flew planes into buildings screaming, “Allahu Akbar!” We are too busy arguing politics to hear the pleas from beyond that warn us all – each and every one of us – to take this confrontation seriously. We are too busy.

A cursory examination of the Islamic culture (of which, admittedly, I am not a fan) reveals that the warriors and war designers of the Islamic world view confrontation and conquest in the measurement of centuries not decades or years. By contrast, the United States of America (only 234 years old, give or take the formative years prior to the signing of the Declaration of Independence) and more importantly, the American culture, has been trained by the ideologically opportunistic to employ a sitcom attention span to all of the issues it faces; everything must be reconciled in thirty minutes, minus commercial breaks, titles and credits. Where Muslims of conquest are planning for a global Islamic Caliphate ruled by Sharia law, Americans are planning for the weekend.

And still the lost souls of September 11, 2001, continue to scream, to implore, to plead to anyone who will listen.

While we should be asking why the Islamic culture facilitates an overwhelming number of terrorist acts around the world, doing so in the name of Allah, Muhammad and Islam, many in the West – mostly Progressives, Liberals and one-worlders – insist that Islam is a “religion of peace.” Why? The facts do not lead to that conclusion. Truth be told, the facts lead to the exact opposite.

Since September 11, 2001, there have been approximately 16,000 acts of Islamist terrorism. That breaks down to approximately 4.8 acts of violence, 4.8 acts of Islamist terrorism, each and every day. Does this qualify Islam to claim the moniker “religion of peace?”

As with every other religious text, there are contradictions in the Quran. But, unlike other religions, the Quran mandates reconciliation for these contradictions. It is explained in the Quran that if two passages contradict each other the passage written later supersedes the one written earlier. Given that the “peaceful” and “tolerant” passages of the Quran were written in the early years and the violent conquest and supremacist oriented passages in the later years, the violent tenets of Islam – per the Quran – abrogate the peaceful tenets. Why haven’t we taken the time to understand this absolute fact about this ideology? Why haven’t the so-called “moderate Muslims” shared this fact with other cultures? Why do we allow appeasers and sympathizers to Islam mislead us on what the Quran actually mandates?

And what of the Wahabbist tenet of al taqiyya? Al taqiyya is defined, literally as,

“Concealing or disguising one's beliefs, convictions, ideas, feelings, opinions, and/or strategies at a time of eminent danger – whether now or later in time – to save oneself from physical and/or mental injury.”

In essence, al taqiyya can be generally defined as the legitimization of deception. Yet Progressives, liberals and one-worlders insist on the peaceful purity of Islam, as they seek to negotiate, to extend an “unclenched fist,” to Islamists like Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Syria’s Bashar al-Assad; to enter into peace talks with the Taliban and Mullah Omar. Would we be so quick to accept the “sincerity” of fundamentalist and radical Islamists were we not ignorant of the deception employed through al taqiyya?

What else don’t we understand about Islam? About jihadists? About the Quran? Why are Progressives, Liberals and one-worlders entered into such a dysfunctional relationship with Islam? Why are they playing the roles of “useful idiots” to Islam’s thirst for conquest?

If we do anything to honor the 2,977 souls lost on September 11, 2001, we should weigh heavily on the facts surrounding Islam, its history, its philosophy, its ideology and the intentions of those who follow the Quranic edicts of Muhammad blindly. If we do nothing else to appease the restless souls of those slaughtered by the Islamists of 9/11 we must quest for the truth so that we might act to secure our future.

We, Americans, have forgotten the pain of the fire that burned us on September 11, 2001. We have allowed the pain to subside, the scar to heal; we have done our best to “move on.” Sadly, in a confrontation of cultures, such as this is – ideological, violent, totalitarian, deceptive and oppressive – moving on leaves our society and the culture of the Western World open to conquest. We “move on,” we forget, at our own peril.

God bless the lost souls of September 11, 2001, comfort their families and friends and give us the strength to survive, as individuals and as a nation.
